General Dentistry
At Advanced Dental & Implant Center, we make suggestions for general and preventative dentistry treatments. Including, treatment for dry mouth (Xerostomia), Bruxism and TMJ. Dr. Christopher Pottorff will evaluate your oral hygiene techniques and make adjustments to your routine. In addition, our team will meticulously clean, polish, and examination of your teeth.
Dr. Pottorff may recommend root scaling or planing if you are suffering from gingivitis or more severe gum disease. These measures can prevent bone loss. They will also help keep your natural teeth.
Bonding
A bonding is a composite resin. This is used as an alternative to amalgams and veneers. This will be an excellent cosmetic option for many patients in Algonquin. Which include patients who do not want the look of silver in their mouths. In addition to patients who do not want the expense of veneers. Bondings can be used on teeth that are decayed, cracked, or stained. Dr. Pottorff will recommend the best treatment for you during your consultation.
The bonding procedure will be completed in one visit. First, Dr. Pottorff will remove the decayed or unsightly portion of the tooth. Then, the tooth will be etched with a liquid or gel. Next, a bonding agent is applied. Then the composite resin is placed in the prepared tooth. Finally, we will trim and polish the resin. This will leave you with a beautifully sculpted, natural-looking restoration.
Composite resins are cosmetically pleasing and easily placed. However, their durability is not as strong as other types of restorations. These resins will typically last from 4-7 years before they begin to chip and wear away. When this happens, Dr. Pottorff and his team will need to replace the restoration.
Digital X-Rays (less radiation than ever before)
Digital x-rays are now the standard in dental imaging.
Dr. Pottorff uses the Sirona Galilieo, a state-of-the-art digital 3D CT scanner. This allows him to see a number of different views of your teeth and potential dental conditions. In turn, Dr. Pottorff will have a better treatment plan to meet your needs. This 3D imaging system increases patient comfort, convenience, and overall accurate treatment planning. Not only are they an excellent diagnostic tool, but they decrease radiation to the patient by over 80%.
Oral Cancer Screenings
During a dental exam, Dr. Pottorff will check your neck and oral tissues for lumps, red or white patches or recurring sore areas. Screening for early changes in the oral tissue can help detect cancer at an earlier stage. As a result, cancer treatment can be more successful.
The primary risk factor for oral cancer is smoking. Especially, smoking combined with heavy alcohol consumption (30 drinks a week or more). In fact, this combination is estimated to be the most likely trigger in about 75 percent of oral cancers diagnosed in this country. Other factors may also increase your risk of developing oral cancer.
Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure. The periodontist will remove plaque and tartar from below the gum line. Dr. Pottorff and our team will clean and smooth the root surfaces. It is important to remove the plaque and tartar from the pockets. This includes the bacterial toxins that irritate the gums in addition to plaque and rough surfaces of tartar make it easier for bacteria to gain a foothold.
Intraoral Cameras
An intraoral camera is a diagnostic device that takes pictures of the gums or teeth from various angles. Therefore, diagnosing a variety of dental concerns has become far easier. This includes tooth decay and gum disease. Thus, allowing for diagnoses and treatment of oral conditions with increased accuracy and speed. In addition, intraoral cameras allow our patients an interactive, educational experience.
